Fresh look Saturday and a coupon!

Hi everybody!  Kari here to take a fresh look at an older template pack.  Let's take a look at a pack Amber released when she was guesting at The DigiChick, Bad Reputation.

I just love all the layers.  Yes, I'm a huge sucker for layers.  Now I don't always use all the layers, and sometimes I change it up, but I generally stick with the layout of the template.  This is a page I did using Bad Reputation, Ouch.  Full credits can be found here.

As you can see, I pretty much stuck to the layers, changing very little.  I love the picture sized paper pieces, if I had thought to get more pictures of my son's busted lip, I could have used those paper squares for more pictures, but I figured I was already being a mean enough Mama for getting the couple I did get before we went to the ER.

I just love how she used all the layers without it being too busy.  Then again, she is kinda awesome at making templates.  ;-)  

Amber and I both decided to take a fresh look at these fabulous templates and we both came up with new pages!  Here's Amber's.  Sweet, right?  Yeah, she kinda rocks.  Her full credits can be found here.

I took a second look and this time I deleted one of the photos (I had 2 pictures and the template had spots for 3) and I kind of scooted the elements more towards the right side.  My full credits can be found here.  I just love how adaptable Amber's templates are.

GALLERY STAND OUTS - June 24

poki here, with more beautiful layouts found in Amber's Designer Gallery at The Digi Chick,  New this past week, but not really - it's a Re-release:  A TOUCH OF SPRING

With the re-release has come a regurgence of use for this lovely template pack.  A new life!  And, WOW, did Deanna add some life with her fun and bright kit choice!  Her layout just screams:  SUMMER FUN!!!  She also featured a girl scout themed kit from Hot Flash Designs ON MY HONOR TOO, but not a Girl Scout in sight!  Beautiful job, Deanna!

Ozegirl used a template from DOCTOR HUXTABLE to create a beautiful vintage-inspired layout.

She combined Amber's template with Kimeric Kreations IN MY LIFE which is also available at The Digi Chick.  What a beautiful layout!

Recipe time!

Sharon here to talk about cooking!  My family is a huge meat eating family, so doing any meal without meat had not been in my vocabulary.  I decided we needed to change our diets a little over time, so now we have one meatless day a week.  Not bad for a carnivore family, right?!  I always get my vegetarian meal inspiration from blogs and recipe websites and came across this fabulous one pot meatless dish at Apron Strings and thought I would tweak it a little and give it a try.

Here's my take on their wonderful recipe:

Ingredients

I put one tablespoon of oil in pan and sauteed the diced onion and garlic for a few minutes then added the 14.5 oz tomatoes with liquid (I used fire roasted), 32 oz vegetable broth, 12 oz of the linquini, mushrooms and 3/4 of the basil.

Then I let this all simmer together until almost all of the liquid was gone stirring occasionally about 10-12 minutes. Then added the spinach to let it wilt for a minute.  Add salt and pepper as needed (I didn't add any salt to mine because the vegetable broth and feta both have plenty of salt).  I chopped up the remaining 1/4 basil and added some to each plate as well as the feta cheese (if you don't like feta you could add parmesan cheese instead).

Viola!

My meat eating family loved this vegetarian dish and my hubby actually went back for seconds!  I couldn't believe how simple yet flavorful this dish was.  I hope you enjoy this recipe and would love to hear what you think!

GALLERY STAND OUTS June 17, 2013

poki here with more beautiful samples of layouts done with templates from Southern Serenity Designs by Amber Morrison - there were 48 layouts posted since I last analyzed the gallery on June 9!  Amazing, ladies!  

And here are three of the amazing layouts I found in Amber's gallery

First up, cardinalskates with a lovely layout featuring Amber's template DELICATE SUMMER

The layout has such a cute photo, with targeted focus on the couple ... we just know that this is a LOVE STORY, which is actually the title!  

This layout features a kit from HGD by Laurie Ann called MY STORY, and her PEEK A BOO ALPHA.  Be sure to leave a comment for the artist in the gallery!

Next up is a layout created by Deanna, with a template from the JUNEBUG pack

Yummy!  Those chocoate covered strawberries sure look good!  What a great memory keeping page for Valentines Day 2013.

Saw it on Pinterest!

Kari here to tell you about something I saw on Pinterest.  With Father's day coming up here in the US, I wanted to do a little something extra for my husband, since our boys & I are 1,000 miles away this year for Father's Day.  (Our lease was up, the hubs is retiring from the Marine Corps & we figured it'd be a great idea to spend the summer with my parents.)  I saw this on Pinterest, an idea so simple & sweet I can't believe I never thought of it!

First what I did was cut out the words using my Pazzles cutter. (LOVE this thing!!)

 I did a second one for my Dad, too. 

 I used the Gunplay font, which can be found here.  I used this stencil looking font so the insides of the e, a & d shows up.  I tried a couple different fonts (I personally prefer a pretty flowy kind of font, but it didn't show the shadows very well) before I found one that showed up in the shadows the way I wanted.

It didn't come out as clear as I would have liked, but when you have 2 kids complaining about the heat & it's 90* F at 9 AM, well...you work with what you got.  lol

While I think this is just about the sweetest thing, as a scrapper, I can't just give my hubs or dad just a picture.  Sooooo, I took Amber's Thankful Greetings card templates (can be found here) & Bright Side of the Road by Kimeric Designs.  I wanted my final product to be 5x7, so I tweaked Amber's templates just a little.    

This is my final project, off to the printer:

(Remind me to NEVER use a certain big box store to print again - they weren't true to size & I had to do some trimming)

And ready to be opened!  My dad gets to open his on Sunday, my hubby won't until we see him in August.
